| Objectives | |
| 1. | To initiate, endorse, and sponsor educational programs; rider safety, public awareness, legislative and affirmative action, and individual freedoms and rights. |
| 2. | To create and promote a positive public image of motorcyclists and motorcycle groups; to dispel and disprove media hype, unfounded propaganda, and the "Hollywood Image". |
| 3. | To encourage goodwill and mutual understanding among, motorcyclists, law enforcement personnel, and the general public. |
| 4. | To benefit the less fortunate (among our group or outside) through organized activities such as blood runs, toy drives, general donations, other fund raising activities, and coordinated events sponsored by other approved organizations, whether or not related. |
| 5. | To serve as an information source pertaining to to current laws, pending legislation, personal rights, political inclinations of elected officials and their constituents, ABATE lobbying and endorsements, and voter awareness. |
| 6. | To act as a central responsive agency to devise and coordinate recreational, legislative, educational, and charitable activities. |
Parent or legal guardian must be present at the beginning of any Rider Course
to sign a course waiver form for participants less than 18 years of age.
Curriculum for Rider Courses is developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF),
a national non-profit organization whose purpose is to improve the safety of
motorcyclists on the nation's roadways and trails. Course material is developed
from research, task analysis and field tests. MSF has offered quality rider
education for over twenty years. All ABATE coaches are MSF certified. Maximum
class size is 12, enroll early to reserve your place.

Basic Rider Course (BRC): This 2-day course
provides basic entry-level skills for a new rider to begin practicing and
developing the mental and motor skills important for safe street operation. The
course consists of classroom and on-motorcycle instruction in a traffic free
environment. Motorcycles are provided and we have helmets to loan. All students
must wear the following protective riding gear items for all on-motorcycle
instruction; DOT standard helmet and eye protection, long non-flare denim pants
or material of equivalent or better durability, over the ankle footwear (avoid
stacked heels or excessively thick soles), long-sleeved shirt or jacket,
full-fingered gloves (preferably leather).
Students should have knowledge of basic rules of the road such as traffic signs
and signals, understanding of right-of-way rules and overall awareness of
traffic regulations as set forth in the Arkansas vehicle code. Students should
also be able to balance a bicycle and be prepared for expected weather with
sunscreen and rain gear.
The BRC is the only Rider Course that entitles a license applicant to a waiver
of the riding skills portion of the Arkansas motorcycle license exam. The
license applicant must submit proof of course completion dated within 90 days of
license application. (Ar. Code Ann. 27-20-108). For successful BRC completion,
students must be on time and attend all classroom and on-motorcycle instruction
sessions. Students must also pass a written knowledge test and on-motorcycle
skill evaluations.
Class begins promptly at 8 am, plan to be there until 5 pm.
Cost is: 17 & under is $70, 18 & over $100 for ABATE members, $125.00
for non ABATE members . All applicants will be notified by E-Mail or US Postal
Service Mail of their course status!
Each person must have the following equipment to participate in any
class.
Basic Riders Course (BRC)
1. Helmet
2. Eye protection (a face shield will work)
3. Over the ankle boots, non-cloth (no stacked heels)
4. Full fingered gloves, non-cloth
5. Long sleeve shirt or jacket
6. Long pants (no bell bottoms)
Skills Plus Rider Course (ERC): This 1-day (6
hour) course is designed for riders who are already licensed and frequently
ride. Participants must submit proof of insurance and license. One hour of
course time is devoted to classroom activities conducted between on-motorcycle
exercises and curriculum is focused on critical skills found lacking in accident
involved riders. Protective riding gear as described for the BRC is required for
all on-motorcycle activities. Class begins promptly at 8 am.
Cost: $40 for ABATE members, $50 for non-ABATE members. All applicants will be
notified by E-Mail or US Postal Service Mail of their course status!

1. Helmet
2. Eye protection (a face shield will work)
3. Over the ankle boots, non-cloth (no stacked heels)

7. Motorcycle
8. Proof of insurance card
9. Valid drivers license with 'M' endorsement
More Informationi: ABATE does have some
helmets but we don't guarantee to have one that will fit you. If you show up
without a helmet and we don't have a spare, you will NOT be
allowed to take the class.
Classes are held rain or shine, hot or cold. So come prepared. The only food
available within easy distance is a Subway sandwich shop. Lunch is approximately
30 minutes. If you don't like Subway, please bring a sack lunch.
