WHY DO PEOPLE LOVE MOTORCYCLES? Is it the thrill of the ride? Is
it the freedom you feel on the open road? Is it the wind blowing in your face?
Is it the excitement you feel as your driving down the road on a powerful machine? It is probably a little bit of all those things. Even
though a few bikers (very few) have given the public a bad image of bikers, the majority of the bikers on the road today are just normal people who enjoy riding a motorcycle. Are motorcycles dangerous? Only
as dangerous as the person operating it. You would never hand a
high power rifle to a child and send them out deer hunting, without training them first. That would be an accident ‘waiting to happen’.
It’s the same way with operating a motorcycle. That’s where ABATE comes in. ABATE
stands for Arkansas Bikers Aiming Towards Education. A few of the goals of ABATE of Arkansas are to initiate,
endorse and sponsor education programs, rider safety courses, public awareness
and to create and promote a positive public image of motorcyclist.
A large part of the ABATE focus is to promote and organize activities to help others, such as blood runs, toy drives, general
donations and other fund raising activities.
Look for more details of all these events in the near future. As you can see, ABATE 26 does a lot more than just riding motorcycles
around the state. Be sure to stop
by and see them at the county fair
this year. By James Emerson
